Russians advance as Ukrainian resistance falters

Russian forces are continuing to advance along the Donbas front. Some think the Ukrainian front line is on the brink of collapse. The ball is rolling for a new Trump–Putin summit. Western reports say that more than 21,000 Ukrainian soldiers have deserted in October alone amid speculation that Zelensky could flee to Britain in the wake of the latest corruption scandals in Ukraine. And the Russians have confirmed British reports that the Starmer government, fearing that Western Europe could be sidelined in US-led diplomacy over Ukraine, tried to open a diplomatic back-channel with the Putin government earlier this year. But it failed due to London’s refusal to listen to the Russian point of view.

That’s the take of the Fare Free London campaign group that says free transport – already available to children under 11 and Londoners over 60 via the 60+ Oyster Card or Freedom Pass – should be extended to all ages.
